Raised in Hawaii in a military family, Arpino’s approach to leadership is deeply shaped by the values of her upbringing—embodying the “aloha spirit” to foster harmony, peace, and mutual respect across all of her professional and personal endeavors. As a first-generation college graduate and beneficiary of generous mentorship and support from many teachers along the way, she is deeply committed to empowering future generations through excellent and meaningful educational opportunities.
A quantitative sociologist by training, Arpino is currently Vice Provost for Academic Program Review and Doctoral Affairs at New York University, where she oversees a portfolio including institutional accreditation, academic authorization, academic assessment, and university-wide initiatives aimed at elevating the visibility, experience, and training of NYU’s PhD students. She is the founder and co-chair of NYU’s PhD Live!, a research communication training program where PhD students learn how to transform their complex research into clear and compelling stories for broad audiences. In 2024, Arpino co-chaired NYU’s university-wide self-study for accreditation, which was recognized by peer evaluators for setting the industry standard. She has provided strategic leadership across NYU’s global network on important initiatives, including the launch of the NYU Grossman Long Island School of Medicine, expansion into the graduate space at NYU Abu Dhabi, and the relocation of the NYU Shanghai campus. Prior to NYU, Arpino was a faculty member at Rutgers University–Newark. She has consulted as a social scientist with a range of organizations, including the Office of Population Research at Princeton University, the Center for Justice Innovation, the Open Society Institute for South Africa, and the Criminal Justice Research Center at The Ohio State University.
A committed student of yoga, meditation, and yoga philosophy, Arpino completed her 200-hour teacher training at the Mandala Yoga Center for Healing Arts in Amagansett, New York, in 2024. She has recently served as the Treasurer of the Board of the Amagansett East Association, and in her free time, can be found weeding in her garden, bodysurfing at the beach, or working on her kiteboarding skills.
She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from The Ohio State University and an M.A. and B.A. from Baylor University.
